I like Nat King Cole

I like Nat King Cole

I dunno.

His music, you know,

it just don't grow old.

I like Nat King Cole.

When I was a kid,

I'd think

"He's a Jolly Old Soul,
that Nat King Cole".

Yep. I would.

Reminds me,
need to experiment with the mataphor mix.
(mental note, to self, eh, eh).

I like Nat King Cole.

And frosted glasses
with sugared brims
and filled right up
with Pink Lemonade
that's far too sweet.

And a Vodka chaser.

I like Nat King Cole.

And Vodka.

Well, I'd like to say that this was a great poem, but I'm afraid it is roughly equivalent to my poem "O Naugahide". That is to say, someday students of our poetry will have convoluted theories about these aberrations.

I'm afraid I can't even share in the sentiments about NKC. He strikes me as a sort of "Barak Obama of Crooning"

I was mystified until I got to the last line and then it all snapped into focus.

"And vodka."

Alcoholic accompaniment is everything sometimes.

Clarity of the mind, and focused sobriety are a myth perpetuated by pot-smoking hippies.

Having said that, I was stone-cold when I wrote this, and the jolly old soul had just come on the radio...not trying to pay tribute, just trying to master the lythe, poetic style of Niki Giovanni.

Obviously, I have a way to go.

Perhaps, kind sirs, I should "stick" to bluegrass.

Honestly, I really liked it! Nat King Cole and Vodka. Its like Walker Percy and a Gin Toddy!

No, it's bluegrass for me.

Bluegrass, Bluestein, and curtains for Standifer (so very, very blue).

To the Stockades ! Off with his Bluemen head.

Whar's my Vodka! (they do have that in the stockades don't they)? Oh well. I'm sure they have rotten tater's, which makes a fine, fine substitute.
